1926 Irish Census - Petition

Post by Christopher » Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:35 pm

The Council of Irish Genealogical Organisations (CIGO) have an ongoing campaign to open the Irish Republic's 1926 Census. Access to this valuable resource, the first census taken after the foundation of the State, will prove to be of immense help to those seeking ancestors born in Ireland before the commencement of civil registration in 1864. www.cigo.ie

There are almost 1000 signatures on CIGO's online petition at the moment but many, many, more are required if the campaign is going to be a success. If you haven't already done so, then please sign the petition and then check to see if other sites on which you post have details of the campaign. If they haven't please post a message about the campaign as it needs to be signed by everyone searching for their Irish ancestors. www.petitionspot.com/petitions/1926C
